Milestones in GDCO - DSE partnership
1- Through the twinning between Eindhoven and Gedaref municipalities and in response to the 10th anniversary of DSE (2004) Gedaref digital city was announced in Eindhoven.Early 2005 a meeting organized by Dr. Agnes Ovington (the mother of twinning) the chair of international division in Eindhoven municipality to establish Gedaref digital city (GDCO). The meeting took place in Eindhoven municipality between the digital city of Eindhoven (Mr. Ben Waumans the president of DSE) and the secretary general of Gedaref people for water services and development organization (Mr. Amin Eirabi) in the presences of Mr. Mohamed Toum Awaad Elgid the coordinator of the twinning and Eng. Mohamed Elhosain the director of Gedaref Water Corporation.
2- Mr. Amin Eirabi and his Excellency Elbashir Sahal the state minister of education and many people from Gedaref interested in the ICT took the initiative and founded Gedaref digital city organization (GDCO). Dr. Moutasim Ahmed Musa was elected as the first chair of GDCO and Omer Hassan Mohamed Zain as secretory general.
3- After the return of Eng. Ahmed Mahmoud Mohamed Eisa from his international trip, an emergency public meeting of GDCO Stakeholders took place in the Teachers Union and Dr. Moutasim Ahmed Musa step down and Eng. Ahmed Mahmoud elected the chair of GDCO.
4- Early 2005 Mr. Ben Waumans the president of DSE received 50 used computers from Applied Scientific Research organization (Toegepast Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek TNO) supported by Dr. E.J. (Egbert-Jan) Sol the president of TNO (he is the first president of DSE). These computers were maintained and packed by the Paradigt Computer Company (Jaap Eeke and Chris Verhoeven) and ICT shop (Frank Witteveen).
5- The computers were used in establishing Abyo and Abaker Gibreel (the poorest area in Gedaref to demonstrate ICT4ALL equally) Telecentres in training the community, later used for deaf training
6- In October 2005 Mr. Ben Waumans the president of DSE sent a message to Eindhoven community and DSE seeking 250 – 300 computers for GDCO
7- On July 2nd 2006303 computers were shipped to Sudan.These computers were donated by the municipality of Eindhoven by ICT Workshop Woensel West, packaged and transported by Paradigt, in a container of DSE and SPEG (Foundation Project Eindhoven Gedaref).
8- December 2006, Participation in a ceremony honoring Dr. Agnes on the occasion of the end of her work in the municipality
9- December 19th 2006, delivering speech in the Eindhoven council (parliament) about the relationship between Eindhoven and Gedaref community according to the request of the members
10- GDCO invited his Excellency mayor of Eindhoven El-alexander Sakkers and the parliament members to visit Gedaref. On last week of march 2007 the mayor and two parliament members arrived Gedaref
11- On 20 June 2007 DSE prepared the third shipment with 400 computers the computers were sorted, cleaned and packed by the Paradigt Computer Company (Jaap Eeke and Chris Verhoeven), the container was purchased by (SPEG) and some of the computers were provided by Richard Broeks (Brabant Water), Frank Witteveen of ICT shop (photo). The computers were distributed to the deaf students and deaf telecentres, Gedaref university, Gedaref water corporation, municipality training centre and various community centers
12- A visit to Eindhoven on the 5th October 2007 after participating in the UN-HABITAT day. We had a meeting with Mr. Ben Waumans and the board of DSE and also we had a dinner with Dr. Agnes and Brabant (SPEG group). We had a meeting with Dr. Agnes and Mr. andre the members of SPEG and we put the road map for the teachers training and skill development. Also we put a road map for vocation training for Gedaref community. we met the deputy mayor of Eindhoven in the presence of Mr. Tim and Mr. Ben
13- 25 September 2008, visit to DSE for updating and new opportunities and the meeting with DSE was attend by the council member of eindhoven and Andre van Lierop from SPEG.
14- 25th may 2010, Visit to Eindhoven and met his Excellency the Mayor of Eindhoven Rob van Gijzel and the head of the department for international coordination (Twan de Bruijn) in the presence of Tim Tindamon the twinning coordinator and show our condolences for the death of Mr. Ben Waumans the president of DSE, update of the partnership between DSE & GDCO and we discuss the future of the twinning between Gedaref and Eindhoven and possibilities of developing a business modules.
15- His excellency the mayor inform us about the idea of determination (withdrawal) some of the twinning and the new idea might help in continuing with Gedaref and we informed the Wali of Gedaref about it (excellency Karamalla Abass)
16- With reference to this Mr. Tim Tindamon arrived Gedaref and GDCO have a meeting with the chamber of commerce, farmer union and Gedaref university (both faculty of medicine and faculty of ICT) looking for business cooperation and opportunities.
17- On 13 April 2011 and we have meeting with DSE board for the first time after Dr. Egbert became the president of DSE after Mr. Ben Waumans death., also met Agnes and Andrea as member of SPEG
18- On the 4th of February 2013 I visited Eindhoven to meet DSE, SPEG members and see dr. Agnes because she is sick. We went to her house with Eng., Richard Broeks (chair of SPEG) and we told by her neighbor she is in Utrecht and I went with Andre to visit her
19- I have a dinner with DSE member ( and Eng. Eric Ideler ) and I update them with the ongoing projects and I submitted a proposal for future projects cooperation
20- DSE through Eng. Eric Ideler used to host our website with Im-hosted and renew it every two years and many times provided us with technical support and also pay the cost of hosting our new website (Sudan e-village and SuNTA)
21- We talk with the SPEG for the future of the work after twining is determinate (stopped and we discuss many issues including the counterpart of Sudan and I advise them to have a supportive NGOs representing all people who are part of the project. We agree to meet in Sudan in April
22- After many emails SPEG team arrive in Sudan and I met them at airport and I joined them for two weeks till they finished their mission and I took them back to Khartoum airport and the new body (counterpart) was founded but neither me nor Gedaref digital city was included in it
